If you’ve spent years pushing through exhaustion, perfectionism, and the quiet, nagging feeling that you’re never quite enough—this post is about what that does to your hormones.
And how I know.
I used to place things very carefully, ladies.
Cups, words, emotions—everything measured, everything positioned just right. Not because I was naturally neat, but because somewhere along the way, I learned that doing things “wrong” had big consequences. I learned that love felt conditional, and that safety was something you had to earn over and over again—and still might lose anyway.
I didn’t know back then that my body was keeping score the entire time!
What Chronic “Not-Enoughness” Actually Does to Your Body
Here’s what nobody told me—and what I wish someone had explained years ago:
When your nervous system learns early on that you aren’t completely safe, it doesn’t just affect your mood. It rewires your physical biology.
Your adrenal glands—those two tiny, extraordinarily powerful glands sitting right on top of your kidneys—go on permanent high alert. They flood your body with cortisol because that’s their job: keep you alive in what feels like a dangerous environment.
The real problem? Your adrenals cannot tell the difference between a real physical threat and a lifetime of feeling like you’re never quite enough.
So they just keep pumping out stress hormones:
Year after year.
Decade after decade.
Cortisol stays constantly elevated. Your estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid hormones all take a hit as a result. Your metabolism slows down, your sleep gets fractured, your mood swings return, and stubborn weight settles right at your middle. You end up with a bone-deep fatigue that no amount of sleep seems to fix.
You push harder because you think pushing is the answer—but pushing is what got us here in the first place, ladies! This isn’t a character flaw or a weakness. This is pure biology doing what it was designed to do.
The Moment I Finally Chose Myself
I was 48 years old.
I don’t know exactly where the shift came from—maybe desperation, or perhaps my body simply ran out of capacity to keep absorbing the emotional pain.
But something inside me shifted. And for the first time in my entire life, I said: ENOUGH.
Not to the outside world, but to that quiet inner voice that had told me for decades that I wasn’t good enough, wasn’t doing things right, and would never quite measure up.
That moment—that one terrifying, shaky, completely unpolished moment—was the very first time my nervous system took a deep exhale in years!
I didn’t feel completely free overnight. Honestly, I felt scared! But somewhere deep inside my body, something finally began to loosen its grip.
What Healing Actually Looks Like
I want to be completely honest with you, ladies, because I think the wellness world lies about this part!
Healing is not linear. It isn’t a quick 30-day program, a magic morning routine, or a bucketful of expensive supplements. It is slow, gentle, and non-linear. Sometimes, on the drive to work, you still hear that old inner voice trying to tell you that you did something wrong before you’ve even walked through the door.
I’ve been doing this deeper inner work since I was 27. Spirituality found me first, then the science followed, and then came the slow understanding that my body was never broken—it was just still bracing for impact!
I am doing so much better today. Genuinely! And I am still healing at the exact same time. Both things can be true.
Why I Built the Reset
I built my 72-hour adrenal reset for the woman who is exhausted in a way that sleep doesn’t touch. The woman who does everything “right” and still feels like something is wrong inside. The woman who has spent years being everything to everyone else and quietly lost herself somewhere in the middle.
I built it because I was her.
The science behind cortisol is real. The adrenal-hormone connection is real. But underneath all of it—for so many of us—is a nervous system that simply never learned it was safe to drop its guard and rest.
I write these blogs because I found my way through the fog. Not perfectly, and not completely, but enough to reach back and say:
I see you. I know exactly where you are. Your body is not the problem—it has been protecting you the whole time!
I’m not sharing this because I’ve reached some perfect destination. I’m sharing it because I know every step of the road you are walking right now.
With love and zero doubt in you,
Esther Lorena
